HD Switching Question

Hi I (foolishly) upgraded to OFW 3.56 awhile back. A local game store has a deal where you can turn in your broken ps3 for a new one for $20 bucks. I have an upgraded HD for my PS3 and I'd like to keep my old hd and put it in the new PS3. Will I be able to successfully transfer the HD to a ps3 with <3.56? Or should I wipe the hd first? Any help would be greatly appreciated

HDD's are individually encrypted to the console they were formatted on. So, no matter what, you'll lose the content on the HDD when swapping it from one PS3 to another.

That's fine. I've got backups of all my save games and can handle that. I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't prompt me to install 3.56 through the recovery menu and instead ask me to install the firmware on the NOR/NAND.

It'll just ask for whatever firmware was last installed on the PS3 you're putting the HDD in to.
