Have 3.40 PS3, JB or wait for something else?
Let me first say that I'm a super n00b when it comes to the PS3. I've modded many a Wii's in my day and JTAG my own 360. I'm not new to console modding..... just new to the PS3 scene.
I went to Best Buy today and picked up a PS3. I got the 160 gig model and about 5 games. It came with 3.40. I know to JB, I need to upgrade to 3.41 but was just weighing my options and wanted to get some opinions from others on what to do.
On the one hand, I can upgrade to 3.41 and JB (can somebody recommend a cheap JB USB device from modchipcentral? I see that on realhotstuff, they only have one JB device for $28) ...... or should I jump onto PSN, accept the 3.55 firmware update, get some updates for the games I bought (Modnation Racers in particular since they have some updates which make major improvements to the game) and take comfort in the hopes that somebody will release some sort of hard drive loader in the coming weeks/months that will work with 3.55 since you know.... the keys are out in the wild.
I'd like to get on PSN to get my game updates but am worried that these hackers will take the moral high ground and make it impossible/difficult for other hackers to release USB loaders like we have on the Wii now. It's SOOOOOOO nice to be able to kick back and switch from game to game and not worry about your child destroying the discs.
Speaking of game updates.... anyone think there will ever be a day where we'll be able to download title updates and apply them to the PS3 manually like we can now on the 360?
One last question, if I go the JB route, can somebody point me to a good/stable FTP program I can use to transfer stuff to the internal PS3 drive? I found one but read lots of people bitching that it was quite buggy and prone to crashing.
