Hard Drive Upgrade on FW 3.41 Problem - Please Help!!!!
Hard Drive Upgrade on FW 3.41 Problem - Please Help!!!! –
10-12-2011,10:22 AM
I am having a problem updating my slim PS3 hard drive from the 160GB drive to a new Samsung 1TB drive. I am using the original jailbreak on firmware 3.41
I used the PS3 backup utility and put the backup on an external hard drive. When I put the new hard drive in and start the PS3, I get the following screen (except replace version 3.56 with 3.41):

I tried this both with the new drive right out of the box and with it formatted to FAT32, if that matters.
I found instructions online dealing with this issue and it said to put firmware 3.41 onto a USB stick. I downloaded the firmware from 2 separate websites and neither fixed the problem.
I know there was a problem with firmware 3.41 with hard drive updates and there are 2 versions of the firmware from Sony, but I can’t find one that allows me to upgrade my hard drive. Even if I could find the later version, I don’t know if my jailbreak will still work with it.
Has anyone else had this problem? Here is what I see as my options:
1. I could update to firmware 3.55 and still be able to use the jailbreak, but I don’t know how to do that and I was happy with the way 3.41 was working for me. I just wanted more space to save games internally.
2. I could just use the 1TB drive externally. Unless someone can tell me how to get it to work internally, this is looking like what I’m going to do.
Thanks for reading and for any suggestions you have.

Thanks for the link.
The site had the same version of 3.41 as the other sites I found.
In case anyone runs into the same problem as me, I was putting the update file only in the root of the USB key drive. I needed to make and put it in the PS3/UPDATE/ folder.
