im sorry to tell you this man but you prob want to google jailbreak iphone somewhere outside of this forum? this is a ps jailbreak forum. once you have your phone jailbroken, you can prob. come back with your questions here. the links above have all the info.

Don't upgrade, stay at 3.1.2.

I've got a 4.0.2 3G which I downgraded to 3.1.2. I was only able to get the iPhoDroid openiboot installed (quadra?). If I used the "supported" version, running 'install' from oibc promptly freezes the device after the NOR backup message. So anyhow I CAN boot the exploit, it loads fine, gets to infinite scrolling "INIT" messages. I unplug the power from the Slim, plug it back in, hit power, then eject. In the 5 or so extra seconds it takes for it to boot, I can see all the devices being challenged, just like the vid, but I don't get any pkg install menu options. I do get a nice "an unknown usb device has been connected" message for my trouble though. I don't think the baseband is compatible. That or I'm a moron and missing something.

If you need to redsn0w your 3.1.2 iphone, you can't use 0.9.5b5-5, which is fairly recent. 0.9.4 works ok. 0.9 crashes for me.


UPDATE
According to this link, 4.0.2 is "confirmed". Was it a 1g ipod? Was it a 3g iphone? Dunno, but I haven't confirmed anything. There's also a version of iPhoDroid on there that installs the exploit in one shot, so I'm going to give that a try...

Found this (How to install PSfreedom on iPod touch 1G) post that solved the problem for me. Turns out Slims need to remove the iPhone as soon as the exploit cycle is done.

So I guess it doesn't matter if you update, this was on 4.0.2.

Now I'm going to spend my time mounting the ext2 image so that when the script is done it shuts the device off, so I don't have to hold power & home.

but what now?? install iphone linux or must i install openboot??

iphone says version 3.1.3 is running as IOS
and redsn0w won't jail break my phone give an error with browsing ipsx both with the 3.1.3 file and 3.1.2

so my question is.. is it jailbreakme.com compitable and must i choose for iphone linux or iphone iopenboot??

u must use redsnow to jailbreak your iphone
jailbreakme.com uses a userland exploit which isnt "deep enough"
