I got a hold of a playstation 3 running firmware 3.30. It's a slim.
I'm brand new to the scene and I was wondering if I should update to 3.55 now.

if you want to play backups and Homebrew then yes update to CFW 3.55 but the rest is up to you .
Roger.
Would there be any benefit to backing up the firmware or better question, can I? Once i upgrade the firmware to 3.55 I cannot go back right?
yes you can downgrade from 3.55 to the original PS3 firmware that came with in the first place.
Is the OFW I'm running already on the internet some where? I won't need to back it up myself do I?
yeah its all over the net and i you can downgrade to any firmware below 3.55 but not the below that your original PS3 has came with it thats what i meant .
I'll be using the tutorial in
"CFW kmeaw + OFW 3.55 + Managers ready to install pack" post
Is there a difference between gaia manager and multiman?
Gaia and multiman are meant for the same purpose. Multiman is far better with lot of improvements and emulators integrated. Use multiman 2.0.005 the latest one. You can google ....Also, i strongly recommend 3.55kmeaw cfw.
Make sure u update from 3.30 to official 3.55 . And then install 3.55 cfw kmeaw
/ Ps2 Fat model->HDloader->120gbIDE->Network adapter pluggedthe latest multiMAN ver 02.06.00
