Got on board with 3.55, how does the PS Break work?

I only recently got my first PS3 and it came with kmeaw. Everything is working great for me. I also have a friend who is very much not a tech person would bought as PS3 about 6 months ago. His PS3 came with a dongle called PS3 Break. I want to help him upgrade to 3.55 so that he can play the latest games but I am not sure exactly how the PS Break works and I don't want to brick anything for him. So how does ths dongle work? Does it use a custom firmware? Or is it "clean" and everything works only with the dongle is attached?

How should I go about upgrading his console to 3.55 kmeaw?

all i could suggest is install to the current official firmware that his ps3 is on,
then install official firmware 3.55
then install kmeaw 3.55 through recovery mode, keep the ps3 offline while you do this
latest multiman etc!!
get all your official downloads prepared on a usb stick, so u dont accidently upgrade to 3.66

BTW proceed with caution if your not sure!!!!

just install the 3.55 ofw and then install kmeaw when thats done. Install multiman and your done. No need for the dongle any more.
