Going Legit

What should I be doing to go clean and update to the current OFW? I've been on 3.55 kmeaw since it came out, but now... you know, Dark Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, online play, etc. What's needed to wipe the "evidence" from my console?

Also, I got that ban threat email a while back, but never heard that I was banned. Would I have gotten notification of that? It would just suck to lose cfw, and have my PS3 banned anyway, basically punishing me for attempting to go clean.

to update i would recommend you doing a full clean of your hard drive and use a program called wipe history before wiping your hdd. Then once that's done, format your harddrive install 3.55 OFW and from 3.55 update to 3.7X hope that helped you out

Wipe History sounds like what I was looking for, thanks. Isn't it a little overkill to format the hard drive, though? I'd rather not lose all my savedata and PSN downloaded games. I was mostly worried about traces left by homebrew apps, as well as it syncing the assload of trophies I got under cfw appearing conspicuous.

And can anyone who was actually on the end of one of their bans tell me if they received any notification through email, instead of just through the console?

Only thing is, if you ever have to remary your blu ray drive then your screwed....It would be my luck I would upgrade then my logic board would go out. Lucky for me though I dont give two craps about online gaming and with JFW 3.41 just around the corner playing new games wont be an issue....honestly there is no reason to upgrade bro, have you really thought about it?

Since The Ico and Shadow of the colossus collection is now playable on CFW 3.55....why don't you 100% it while waiting for the scene to turn something up?

If DH doesn't release its CFW by the end of this year,screw it and go legit!

You guys are good at making me rethink my law-abiding resolution. I guess I don't have anything immanently requiring me to update to OFW, I just miss invasions in Demon's Souls and junk like that. Plus I didn't really think that the 3.56+ games would be cracked for 3.55 any time in the near future; I had no idea Ico and SotC were cracked.

For when I do go legit in the near future for Dark Souls online and perhaps Skyrim, would it be stupid to just use Wipe History, downgrade to 3.55 OFW, and then update via internet?

If you really want online , sorry but DH will not help you. Will make you play 3.6 3.7 new games, true, but no psn, no online gaming. So, if you truly want to play online, sorry bro, but maybe is better go with Official firmware. Maybe later DH will release a psn function, who know. Do you want to wait?

You can even choose a modify, with 2 firmwares. One for play, one for online gaming. Or E3, new model makes you downgrade from last firmware to 3.55. Thinks carefully, but either if you choose to go online with OFW, and later you want to play backups, you will have the E3 option available.
Over all, if you want and you can, my best suggestion before log , is change your HDD wih a new clean one. Up to you, as you see
