UPDATE*** NO LONGER WORKING!!!

run this program on your pc and configure your network settings in PS3 to use a proxy. Use your computer's IP as the proxy. No need to update to 3.56 Works great (for the time being)!

UPDATE: It does work! make sure you have any firewall software or portblock stuff turned off! (it runs well in a virtual machine with bridged networking.. then you can leave firewall software on host turned on without having to configure exceptions)

rather than using a common dns.. this uses your same WAN ip as your real ps3. isn't that maybe safer? correct me if I am wrong?

nm, figured it out. I just get DNS errors. No firewall.

OK got it set to proxy (had wrong thing) and it works but crashes upon update bypass, which is ok but has a runtime 5 error.

got error when I try start the program

Edit: was a dll file i needed to download and install, just tested and all works fine, online

Edit 2 : does the program need to be live all the time or can i just shut it down after I set the right settings on my ps3?

has to run in the background all the time while you online.

i set this up and tested the connection and when it says access to PSN it said passed...i then go to sign in and it gives me an error (80711008)...does this mean that this method doesnt work anymore

So I've been using a modified squid proxy combined with an apache webserver to do this. It doesn't offer any real advantages over the DNS trick, that is, once the DNS trick stops working, this will too.
