Hi,
i recently tried going back to 3.55 OFW on my PS3 Slim 120gb from Geohots 1st CFW in recovery mode and this resulted in the RSOD with the 'serious error' message.
Just to clarify, is my PS3 dead with no possible way of fixing?
Thanks.

Are you sure you updated with the Recovery mode? Most people get that from updating using Service mode which are two completely different things. How did you get into this "Recovery Mode"
wouldnt service mode just refuse to update since its already at 3.55
No, it will let you do it and then give you a RSOD on reboot.
I went from OFW->GeoCFW->OFW->GeoCFW all via System Update in xmb. Were you doing it via holding I/O for two beeps?
All you got to do to fix it is, get out of service mode and restore your firmware via recovery.
There was a guy on this forum who had rsod and got it back running from recovery.
good luck.
ah i wasnt aware they were 2 different things, sounds like thats it.
Can anyone point me in the right directions or give me a liite guide on how to sort this out? Everytime i turn on my PS3 now it just red screens.
take the harddrive from ps3 than you can use service mode
