games and their game update/patch?

hello,
i didnt find any thread about games and their update/patch,i know to install update/patch but how can i be sure that the game works with that update/patch,is there any guide or tutorial how that has to be done?

All in-game updates are safe. also, if the game says there's an update, then the game will run fine, depending on the game. they'll usually load though

i put game on internal hard disk,installed patch which was in .pkg file,when i run the game will game run along with that patch?
i ask this because games goes to etc gamez folder and patch install themselves to game folder?
i hope you understand my question
