Once you install Rebug 4.21.1 and then install and enable Rebug Toolbox Rebug mode you're fine. I haven't run into any update that needs patched. Just install and play.
We can argue experience all day long, but......well...... Just screwing with you
If you enbale rebug mode and still can't get it to work without a patch give me the game ID and I'll look at it

I've been doing all of my games' updates in a row and I seem to be fine so far. Hope I don't run into any problems, but so far the only games I care about are good. Resident Evil 6, Crysis 2, Borderlands 2, Ultimate MVC 3, WWE 13, SF vs. Tekken... only thing I'm having trouble with is Mortal Kombat. It keeps freezing on me now when trying to create Save Data. I'm sure it has to do with me ****ing up the way I added modded files in it, along with the packages I've installed. I just copied a whole bunch of crap onto the game lol. I don't have the disc anymore so I'm probably going to have to download a copy.

I know for a fact NHL and FIFA 13 updates can't be played without patching the update. I have 4.21.1 rebug, then did the rebug setting so I can go online and bam, doesn't work. You are right for other games, like Need for Speed - no patch on the update but the two i mentioned need them. Try it out - now i'm curios ; )

Well, I would try them but I don't have them and have 0 interest in them. Besides I asked for a game ID so I could look at the update to see what the problem is if there is one. I'm still thinking it's on your end

Im having issues with Fifa 13 too, not that I cannot install the .pkg update that I get from multiMan, it's that I get "an error occurred during the start operation (80010009)" when trying to start the game..
I have no idea what's wrong.

Say "**** it" out loud as you are about to install the firmware then install the firmware. sip your expensive alcohol as you are watching the installation finish.
It should not brick, but most people are scared of it. The **** it and alcohol is an attempt to relieve you of anxiety.
Good explanation on eboots - and the alcohol tip -

I'd be interested to hear what you find on this. Lots of people are struggling on the Fifa 13 one. I managed to get the 1.02 update to work on Rebug 4.21, but I took the update, resigned the eboot.bin with 4.xx keys and modified the param.sfo from 4.25 to 4.21.

Curious - how did you modify the param.sfo? Did you just open it up in notepad and change 4.25 to 4.21? Is it as easy as that b/c I see a lot of param.sfo edit programs too....
also - when I said I installed a pkg file, it was given to me by someone else which I believe updated all the necessary items (eboot and param) to enable this thing to work.

How would a .pkg file update the eboot?
I d/l:ed the patch that is out for fifa 13, applied the changes, sent the game to my internal HDD through FTP, tried to play it but again it says "an error occurred during the start operation (80010009)"
So annoying.

To modify the param.sfo I use PS3SFOEdit.exe. You can't just use notepad.
I installed the update from PSN, navigated to the game folder via FTP to locate the newly installed files. Took the new eboot.bin and applied a 4.xx npdrm fix using true ancestor resigning tool. Copied it back after also editing that param.sfo file.
I could then run the game without getting the 81009 error. (I was also getting that error before I made those changes.)
