Game Updates - Are They Really Needed ?
Game Updates - Are They Really Needed ? –
01-31-2011,04:53 AM
Hi All,
I'm just wondering if Game Updates are really needed if NOT going online.
- I DONT go online
- Game Backups are working without Update
- I haven't seen any game that requires an update to work
- It takes space on HDD
Based on the above is it still recommended to do Game Updates ?
What do I lose out on, by not doing game update ?
Can a game update stop the game backup from working ?
IF I did update, can I go from original version straight to new version, or do I need the updates in between ?
IF I did update, and then transfer that game backup to my PC, would it be the latest version that transfers or JUST the original backup ?
Many Thanks

Hi there,
Usually game updates fixes bugs, glitches and add's/ or remove's certain things.
Ive had two bugs in game up till now, Dead Space II (which has no update for it yet) and Enslaved. Both game's a bug prevented me to push forward. I had to start a new game for Dead Space II but for Enslaved the update fixed my problem so i could continue my game.
But if your game is working for you, and you are limited on hdd space i wouldnt update.

In my oppinion - if it works, no need to update it.
If you have problems, maybe an update could solven the game issues...

Thanks Both.
Whilst HDD Space isnt really an issue for me, I just thought why use it up with something not needed.
The one thing that would be of interest to me, would be gaining features and fixing unknown glitches.
My MAIN concern would be that by doing the update it could stop the Game Backup from working due something in the update - Has this happened to anyone?

Funny thing is, having ps3 connected to my network but not to psn allows me to download all the updates I want, no hassle. I don't know if anyone else does this.

Some games do, Fight Night Round 4 has a gamebreaker in that it can schedule a fight (if you accept it) and it will not cancel the next fight you planned, so you get stuck in limbo and have to restart.
So yeah some games really do need updates.
Make sure you butter the non reflective side of your CD's / DVD's and Blu-Rays so that when you drop them, they land butter side down thus preventing scratches.

Generally speaking most update are between 10-50mb, however you do get updates that are like 1gb for example heavy rain update 2.00 is 1gb to make it compatible with playstation move i think.
But game updates don't require you to sign into psn so i have assumed its ok and have update about 10 backups through my cfw 3.55 ps3.

Thanks Everyone,
I now have most answers I need, Just one final question.
If I'm using one of the many available programs to download my updates and using USB rather than being connected to the internet.
Can I just go from original version to latest, Or do I need all the updates in between ?
Cheers

I'm pretty sure that the latest version is all you need, however it's odd as sometimes the latest version is not the accumulative size of the other updates ?!
