Game PKG's

Hey guys I have kmeaw cfw on my ps3 I would like to know what game pkgs are for... I also need a little help with one game I have MultiMAN and a 2tb external hard drive when I go to play rock band 3 off of it I get black screen but when i install to internal hard drive it works no prob but tron off of my external works.. I found a pkg for rock band 3 and other games what do they do for me some one told me they boot up the game from external hard drives?????

Just got LBP2 to run off of my 2tb external with out pkg and got black screen but then i use a ps3 game in the ps3 and now it works still what is the pkg for ??? and why do i need a game in some times for it to work and not black screen on me ???

Well the PKG's could be an update or it could be a hacked eboot for 3.41 users. Either way if on 3.55 you don't need it as it will update on it's own when you boot the game. And some games just work without a disc others don't. I always just load from disc as it doesn't really wear your laser out as it just runs it for a second to initialize and then isn't used again. Now in 3.41 discless mode seemed to work better than it does in 3.55 that is for sure but their are games that if you try to run discless will corrupt your HDD and you will have to reformat and start over.

Bayonetta and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (aka part 3) do this if you try to run from app_home (aka discless or direct boot). I had to reinstall 500gb of data. I ripped all the disc to the PS3 and never backed them up to my PC HDD. I learned my lesson on that. I re-ripped everything then FTP'd the games to my HDD and RAR'd them for archive purposes and bought a 1tb USB HDD just to keep backups to restore my PS3 at anytime.

Hope I helped and feel free to ask anymore questions as we all have to start somewhere. I just wish I had help back in the N64 copier days as it took forever for me to sort it out by myself. Not sure why most get so pissed of when people ask questions myself. Sure most have been rehased but seriously it is hard to find useful info here through all the BS post asking for GT5 and PSN support so a new clean thread is always nice IMO.

Wow TY for the info and the reply i didn't know you can get a corrupted hard drive from ps3 games running in no disk mode thank you

I got some corrupted files b4 and i could not delete them but then some one told me to go into recovery mode and fix ps3 file system and then i was able to delete the files


I think this .pkg is for 3.44 and one is for 3.55 i think it lets you run the game off the hard dive if any one knows please tell me ?? I could install it and find out lol

If i have a disk in the ps3 it's not running right??


I went to back up my ps3 with the ps3 backup utility and after 2hrs i got to 99% or some thing and a message pops up saying storage device can not be access i have a 2tb hard drive with lots of room so i used comgenie's awesome file manager to back up all of it..

Is this the same or better then the ps3 backup utility?????

Well you can't restore from comgenie if you have a brick only if you deleted files so the Sony utility is the way to go, if you can reformat the drive using formatfat32.exe utility and try again. And yes one is for 3.55 and one is for 3.41 but they were made for those not using backup managers but want to run games from the XMB. Not all games work this way and has a low compatibility rate. Just avoid them they aren't needed and are for Geohot CFW users mostly, well CFW's that don't have peek and poke to run backup managers. Just stay running stuff from a manager. And no the PS3 just checks if a disc is inside the drive and the doesn't read from the drive again till you run a new game.

ok ty i get it people with geo hotz jb can't peek and poke so they need a .pkg to boot back ups

and you can't restore a bricked ps3 ???

so if i want a good back of my ps3 b4 i do any more mods i should back up with the ps3 UT

PS3 Speed USB Adapter is that 3.0???

and whats w/ SM 3.8+ & OPL v0.8???


o and when i copied all my files in comgenie to my 2TB i can't see them on my PC but i can in comgenie ???

The ps3 speed adapter was good when dongles were used as it allowed me to keep my USB hdd plugged in while starting the jailbreak. All I did was flip the switch on the back of my slim/phat and power eject. No fencing cords or having g to unplug the hdd upon boot or system crash. Yes a USB hub will do the same but looks like crap just dangling in front of my setup and it has a really bright blue led that is the only reason I keep it plugged up as it looks cool. And am 3.8+ OPL v0.8 is swap magic 3.8+ coder disc to allow me to boot ps2 homebrew from a USB device. The OPL v0.8 is Open Loader for the ps2/3 to allow me to stream my ps2 games from my pc hdd.

I also have a 250gb slim sata hdd I just ordered a enclousure for it as I just upgraded my laptop to 400gb to store my ps2 games and I'm going to load it with ps1 games when it shows up. 250gb holds a ton of psx games. I'm not a pirate in the normal sense as I buy my games new to support devs and not some over priced used game store that charges 5 less for a used copy that they only paid half what they are asking as it doesn't support devs but low life's. I don't see a problem with games I can't buy new. And yes I know you can still buy them from psn to support the devs but not all the games I want are there and I am a huge fan of translations and rom hacking things I can't do with those.

I have been trying to replace the data from castlevania sotn official psn game with a translated version as it is better than the official release IMO but I haven't had luck re-signing. But that is a different topic altogether so I'm gonna end my useless rant now. LOL

If you want to see your games on your pc you need to go to your folder options on your computer and enable viewing of hidden system files. Just make sure you don't fuss with any of your important windows files. Hope I helped a little.

I see my ps3 games but not the ps3 system files like dev_flash and stuff i will try to make a back up with the ps3 UT but i think having my dev_flash and other files may be a good idea like if **** up a system file and louse blu-ray support???
