i haven't been keeping up to date with the latest jb releases and maybe someone can let me know a thing or two
i have a blackcat usb jb device with which i think i have flashed with one of the first releases.
is there a need to update the hex file with a newer one?
which is the nicest game manager out there that has the most features?
and also anyone know where to get a separate switch for the power cable, unlike the ones that come bundled with JB dongles

Use either one, its PL3 and Hermes v4b, you shouldn't have any issues with either.
For the backup manager, it really depends on what you need. I suppose Multiman has the most features, because of a built in file manager, AVCHD support, etc. All of the backup managers have a thread in the Game Backup forum here: http://psx-scene.com/forums/ps3-game-backup/
I'd just look at Rogero, Gaia, Multiman and pick whichever one you like the best.
As for the switch, just grab one from Light Take, Deal Extreme, or Price Angels. The one here: http://www.***********.com/details.dx/sku.48927 is 3.24 free shipping. It may take a while to arrive but can't beat the price. Edit: The link was for ***********, you'll have to google for it since its censored out.
thanks. i have just tried multiman and uncharted 2 bdrom to internal hdd but the game hangs each time after clicking it.
will i need to update the firmware on the blackcat then?
do the files attached remove the need for a disc in the drive also?
I haven't ever played that game, as I don't own a copy, but according to PS Jailbreak Compatibility List - Home, the game should work fine on internal drive, without a disc in. However, it says you need to delete any previous game updates or game data or it can freeze. And yes, you should update the firmware on your blackcat board, they both help tremendously and you'll run into less problems. I've just started using PL3, but I've used hermes v4b and played many games without a disc in without a problem. If you want to play without a disc in, I'd give it a try and use FLIP to flash psgroove_blackcat_at90usb162_16mhz_firmware3.41.HE RMES to the board. (I renamed Cyberskunk's compile so you could tell the difference)
There may be some games where you do need a game in, but I haven't run into very many. Flash your board, make sure you delete previous game data, and you should be good to go.
