A game i can't remember - Help it's driving me mad! –

I played a game when I was around 7 - 10 years old. (I'm 29 now) And for the life of me I cannot remember what the name was or the system it was played on.
I did not own the system and only played it a couple of times. I have googled and searched ROM sites for days with no result. All I can remember is it had a Mario feel to it but was not Mario or his brother. The graphics looked smooth and at times you would find a switch or block and this would change the gravity and you would have to run/jump upside down. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have been looking for this game on and off for some years.

What year was it, plus do you remember was it color, or black and white, and was console or computer.
20 odd years back, there was spectrum, commodore, ataris etc...
You need more info.

Year was roughly 1988 to 1990. The game was color. Was a console game and I think it was cartridge. The character in the game was male. And I think the character was blue but not sure on that one. Was 21 years ago and I'm getting old man. Update: You could run in both directions not like Mario where you could only run to the right. (in those days) Update2: Spectrum looks to old.

Thanks for the link. At first glance it might be the Sega Master System.

The only thing I can think of is Alex Kidd, but I don't remember anything to do with gravity in that. Still a great game though.
I have a game I've been trying to remember the name off too. I'm pretty sure it was a commodore game. I remember being in a maze (a bit like pac-man) and I remember being able to pick up a mallet to hit your enemys with. I also remember some funky music in the background....maybe that popcorn tune.
