FUBAR or Not FURBAR'ed That Is The Question
Sorry to trouble you all on this wonderful day when homebrew has been released and MultiMan figured out a way to play backups on a MFW without the syscals but i have a burning question.
I have a rather cr@pola PS3 Slim, the blu-ray is buggered (Drive not Logic Board) and was using Warrens rather great BRB firmware 3.55 but then I made a few EPIC mistakes. Firstly I got a new blu-ray drive and installed it with my working logic board.. I found that inserting games or downloading PSN content and when run just ended up with the BSOD, so I thought I'd reload my firmware to the OFW. This ended up with me getting stuck in a bloody update loop at 48%, I read that this is the harddrive, So I looked around and found people had luck taking the battery out for 30 minutes and also formatting their drive to NTFS and trying again.
I done this a dozen times and got no luck, either the update failed on any 3.55 Firmware (which I was on) or I got a "The Data is Corrupted" error from every USB drive /SDCard I used.
On the forum last night and someone said to try in service mode, I have a HTC Tattoo with psfServiceMod recovery on it that allows service mode. Activated it, plugged it in and sure to be hold the PS3 turned on and then off again. I unplugged my Tattoo and turned back on... The PS3 then loaded up the update loop again but this time Red Screen of Death.
I had the marvelous idea (bet you can guess!) to turn it all off, take it apart, remove the battery for 30 minutes AND format my HDD to NTFS. Put it all together all excited I could get this to work but it don't.
Now when I turn it, it goes black screen for about 20 odd seconds then turns off. I have used again multiple USB drives in the second USB port with a modified 3.55 firmware PUP and the lv2 self file for 3.55 but as soon as I turn on after about 20 seconds it turns off! (I looked at the HDD LED on the PS and when it starts it flashes a couple of times but then goes blank and then flashes one more time as the PS3 goes into Standby) Grhhhhhhhhh....
I have also tried just having the lv2 self file (the second one) on the USB's root to get out of service mode but I am truely well stuck.
Am I FUBAR'ed or does anyone have any recommendations. I really wanna recommend myself to take a large lump hammer to it but I can't afford a new one and I can't bring myself to asking Sony for help and then getting charged a mound of cash (that I don't have) for the pleasure.
Any help would be gratefully recieved.
