FTP Speeds –
12-11-2010,05:00 PM
I'm using FlashFXP and blackbox ftp (I think that's what it's called). I'm doing this wireless and it is slow. I'm getting around 2-40 KB/sec, 300 if I'm really lucky. I do have a crossover cable. Would it be faster to use this? How do i set this up?

Always use wired if possible. I get around 1MBph\s with wireless and 30 MBps with wired
Good luck!

If you use a regular 10/100 mbs router or switch, you will get between 8 to 10 mbs using cable.
If you use a gigabit router or your MOBO supports gigabit LAN you can connect your ps3 directly to your PC and get speeds of 25 to 30 mbs.My PC(mobo) only has 1 LAN port so I bought a pci gigabit card and now my ps3 is connected to my PC and I'm guaranteed 30 mbs transfer rate just like the previous dude said.
FAT 500gig PS3 3.15(stashed)
SLIM 500gig PS3 3.41(current)
Hermes CFW 3.41
MultiMan 1.15.02
XMC cross Battle Apapter 2.0(wired 360 controller)

So if I connect my ethernet cable to PC--PS3 directly, do i have to set it up in windows? How would I go about that. Would I have to change both my router and LAN port on my motherboard for it to work?

i think you need to use a crossover cable if you want speeds over 10mbps and have it connected directly to pc on a faster ethernet card meaning (10/100/1000 or gigabit). I was trying to do this as well since my router is only 10/100 and since my pc has a 2nd nic gigabit but i cant get speeds over 10-12mbps. I just transfer instead with a usb hard drive which is WAY faster.

Router is out of the question if you are connecting your ps3 directly to your PC(LAN port),you don't need to do anything to your router. If you have 2 LAN ports on your PC,fine, connect your ps3 to one,if you only have 1 LAN port unplug your ethernet cable, using either cat5e,cat6 or crossover cable, connect your ps3 to your pc.
Go into your ps3 network connection and write down your ip address, use your favourite ftp cliet, thats it.Windows should automatically assign an ip address for your ps3 but for some strange reason if it doesn't,restart your pc and disable windows firewall for the private network(ps3) you've just created.
Post back if you're having any problems or need help.

You don't necessarily need a crossover cable, your regular cat5e or cat6 ethernet cable should be able to do 30mbs.Depending on the version of windows you have, make sure windows security or firewall is not blocking or interfering with the connection.
Also,go into your PC network connection, click on the LAN connection for your ps3,under General, make sure the speed says 1.0 Gbps.Hope this helped.

any idea why? the cat is run through my laptop and ps3
edit: got it to work
. firewall had to be off.. but im still getting same speeds. I guess my laptop/desktop isnt 10/100/1000

As Rufus said before, make sure you are using a Cat5e or Cat6 cable (no need for crossover) and connect your PS3 directly to your PC. Do not use autodetect speed, make sure to set both manually to 1000Gbit Full Duplex mode.

Yea I did that but what do you mean set both? How can I set my PC to 1000Gbit?
