FTP or SATA to USB Cable?

I recently ordered a 640gb 2.5" HDD and a SATA to USB cable in order to easily transfer games from HDD to HDD. I just read that a PS3 formatted HDD cannot be read by a PC. Is this true? Or is linux able to read it?

Also, does anyone know if someone is working on an FTP client yet?

There is no ftp client yet and a ps3 formatted hard drive cannot be read by pc.
