Took me 3hrs to sort mine out and all it took was a simple restart of windows also you could try closing any firewall software you have running

i've tried rebooting laptop, router, ps3, reinstalling the ftp onto the ps3, tried port forwarding.
I can now get it to connect everytime, but every time i try to open a sub directory in the ps3 files i get "Failed to retrieve directory listing"

I know you've tried several apps, but I'll still throw out one more to give a shot: FlashFXP.
