So I got a 750GB hard drive a couple weeks ago that worked fine for a while and didn't have stuttering issues during gameplay, until today, it started stuttering on MLB10 The Show. So before I install any more games on it, got 4 games installed so far, I want to back those 4 games up over ftp to my computer, and once I get a replacement hard drive that works better, I want to ftp the games back to the ps3. Will it be as simple as backing up the games from the LAUN12345 folder and then putting them back in that folder when the new hard drive is installed? What about gamesaves? Can I back up my gamesaves via the PS3's backup tool, or individually to a usb stick and will they work once I ftp my games back to the PS3? Anything I should do/not do to make sure this works?

You can ftp the games without worry, you can also ftp the saves.

It may be best to back up to usb stick from the xmb for the saves, although if some are protected then you will need to use ftp to transfer

I started a thread similar to this regarding a full back up of the drive via ftp. However I have yet to have a definitive answer as to whether I will be able to reactivate my purchased games without updating.

    Good luck

So I tried to back up the first game via ftp, but there's one file that will timeout and won't transfer. The file is /GAMES/GAMEID/PS3_GAME/LICDIR/PS3_DISC.SFB The file shows up under the failed transfers in filezilla. The interesting thing is that if I manually browse to that folder, the file is not there, but instead there's a file called LIC.DAT, which had not transferred before and I was able to copy it over to my pc. Any ideas what might be happening here.

I'm using filezilla and blackbox ftp 1.0b. Speeds also aren't all that great, hovering between 1.5-2.5

I'll try flashfxp. What I find interesting is that the file that filezilla was reporting as not being able to transfer(PS3_DISC.SFB), is actually located in a different directory, and the only file located inside the "LICDIR" directory is "LIC.DAT", which I was able to transfer manually. I did a bit more research and came across a page where the directory/file tree is displayed for that game, and it pretty much matches what I have now on my hard drive. I'll give it a try with flashfxp and see what happens.

Dude, I registered here because after hours of trying to make filezilla work with Blackbox to no avail, I don't know why. But I found this thread, and now after installing Flashfxp everything works great. Thanks !!!!!!!

Installed Flashfxp and transferred 6 games over ftp last night. Didn't give any indication of any failures, but I didn't see a section where it reports success/failure like filezilla does, so I guess I'll have to wait until I swap out the hard drive and ftp the games back to the ps3 to see if things worked out ok.
