Frozen PS3 When Booting After Coldboot Customization

So, I'm desperate here. I decided to add my own little coldboot PS3 boot up logo with sound. I was using Coldboot Installer pkg and had a coldboot folder on my external rather than doing it myself manually through FTP.

After installation of the files I made, my PS3 did not boot up anymore. It would power on and leave me hanging at a black screen. I tried to get into Safe Mode, which worked, and then tried all the options several times. EVERY time it would lead me right back to the black screen. I just couldn't bypass the initial start. Obviously, I screwed up creating the coldboot and my PS3 can't process the initialization of the XMB.

Is there any way to fix this? I called Sony and they will replace the hard drive for free as it is still under warranty, but I'm trying to do this myself because I miss Crysis 2 and rather not wait over two weeks!

I am running on MFW 3.55 via the PS3MFW program on a 160GB Slim. All help is appreciated. Thank you.

Reinstall your firmware via recovery.

I dont know mutch about this stuff but what works most of the time when something is wrong is reinstalling firmware. I dont think changing coldboots could brick your ps3. So i think it wont boot because something is missing/corrupt. Also theres no risk reinstalling FW so give it a try:)

I've actually tried that a few times. I have the firmware file on my external still in the PS3>UPDATE folders, but when I try installing it, the PS3 states that an update could not be found. :(

EDIT: I wonder... does the .PUP have to be in the root of the drive? Guess it's worth a try.

Normally when you put it on a FAT32 drive. in the folder PS3 > Update > PS3UPDAT.PUP It should see it. I had the same problem but i just forgot it has to be FAT32...

Okay, guys. Problem resolved! Updating the firmware worked. Thank you for all the help. The odd thing is though my hard drive wouldn't read the update file unless it was in the root of the drive. Placing it in PS3>UPDATE wouldn't work. How is that even possible? Does Safe Mode work differently when updating?

Do what Chesh said, but i'd do 3.55 ofw first then the mfw

From what i understand, changing coldboots, spoofing, chaning/deleting things in flash. Could allways be repaired with reinstalling firmware.

Recovery mode takes the update file from the root and should also check the PS3/UPDATE, but depending on what's in the system, it can be different. In the order it checks, it checks the BD first, then USB0,1,2,3 in that order. GameOS takes the update from /X/PS3/UPDATE/*

Oops... hope it wasn't bad that I installed MFW without installing OFW first... would something bad happen? I totally forgot to do that first. Everything seems to be working just fine though.

Edit: Oh, and FTP didn't work for some reason... but just playing around, I installed the lvl2 v9 patch and it was okay. Not sure if that was coincidence or not.
