Friend wants to go from CFW 3.55 to OFW 3.56 because of Netflix. This is how im going to do that

yup. hacked his 3.55 to WeoHot 3.55

loves the emus. no backup managers, "im not in a rush"

told him to turn off auto updates, so he's been sitting offline playing Mass Effect 2.

Remembers he has Netflix and hes a big movie buff so CFW is gone "til a late date"

so heres what we did

Ran EraseMe 1.1
Deleted all homebrew
Recovery mode
OFW 3.55 in PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP


running it now while watching Heat game.
Will update to 3.56 via online after 3.55


so his PS3 will be clean with Sony servers, we're good???

It will be clean, but if Sony is keeping track as some suspect then it has already been made dirty.

I know someone who was careful to clear logs and use stealth packages and such and once he was online and it said he was playing Doom

I'm on geo3.55 and Netflix is still working some how. no DNS crap or anything of that nature. Just geo 3.55 and I still have Netflix. Search for netflix in the forums and you'll see a video of it.

That sounds like a good way to go but, if it were me, I would do a full system restore by using the "Restore PS3 System" option. Just to make sure beyond the shadow of any doubt that my system is clean and free of any old brew files and/or third party folders or files.

But like I said, that's just me. What you guys did might very well be "good enough". But I always keep in mind that, remnants of things that get installed and deleted always have a way of lingering on the system unless a full format is done to make sure that they are all completely removed.

thanks for the responses, we're on OFW 3.55 now

we tried to get on netflix without the update, and it kept logging in and kicking us off so we just signed up for the update. so we'll keep you updated

i need to get from kmeaw 3.55 CFW to hermes 3.41 CFW for my home console...
