No need to reformat to claim back your free space.
Some reported to just boot in recovery mode and use the "restore file system" option, it will fix it.

    I have a similar issue.
I was adding GT5 and GTA4 by FTP to internal a few times and took up all my free space in the HDD. I have a 120gb slim. After adding the backups and deleting them through multiMan, the space on the HDD did not free up.

I tried restarting from recovery mode, that did not help. Trying to avoid formatting as much as I can because of the trophies.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

IF Restore File system dose not work do the following

    Run Awsome file manger

    Copy dev_hdd0/Home to dev_USB0/

    format system with CFW

During the setup make a user account the same as your old one. Install Awsome file manger over agian

    copy dev_usb0/home to dev_hdd0/

after its copy Press and hold the power button on the ps3 (do not exit the file manger)

Start in recovery mode and select rebuild file system.

    --------------------------------

this will rebuild you Home director + users. In the user director will have your save files + trophie info + PSN ID / PSN player card..

Becuz I have my own personal Server with 5TB of HDD space I made it a habbit to back up

    dev_flash (nand)
    dev_flash2 (nand)
    dev_flash3 (nand)
    dev_hdd0/game (PS3 Game Data+PSN download content)
    dev_hdd0/home (User profile location)
dev_savedata (PS1 Memory Card for PSX games)
    dev_hddo/theme (PS3 Themes)
xRegistry.sys (for system activation on DLC I bought. Need /home/user as well to work right)

i do the backup atlest once a month to keep my ps3 backed up to date.
The PS3 backup ultily dose not backup Trophie data with lead me to do the following above^

I keep a copy of the Flash folder do to the fact I know there work 100% and if I opss something up all I need to do is re-flash it with a nand flasher.
