So i wanted to format my ps3 because i have no idea what is taking up all the space. I added up all the game data/saves (i have no music/videos/pics) and my 2 backups on the internal and it doesnt even come close to 120gb.
i dont know maybe there are hidden files on my ps3 that are taking up space but idk.
so i wanted to format it but i was wondering if i keep my kmeaw custom firmware. or do i need to jailbreak it again or something.

I had to reinstall OFW 3.55 and then the kneow 3.55 when i changed my HDD, I could not get the thing to start any other way even from a complete backup, but it only take 2 minutes to do that anyway

yeah but i don't want to backup my ps3 to the external because it takes forever and what if it copies over the things i don't want.
all i care about are my saves. Is there a safe way to just copy over my saves then?

useing Multiman backup hdd0/home > USB HDD
put 3.55 CFW on usb.PS3>UPDAT
Format PS3 Useing Full Format. (it take ages but it well clean out ever thing...)
Reinstall CFW updat.... once ps3 boots crate a account excatly the same name u used before... Install Multiman agian and then copy over your /home director replacing everthing..
Restart PS3 in Recovery >Rebuild database
all your saves and Trophies should be restored.. all u need is to re-install ya game data

I have the same problem with the vanishing HDD space, but do I need to do a full format to fix it or will a quick format work?

Pretty sure trophies do not get backed up via usb. One option would be to sync them on psn before formatting, then sync again after formatting. Another option I've never tried would be manually copying all the trophy files in FTP to back them up, then reload them the same way after format.

Back up utility states that trophies should be synced on PSN, then re-synced to the PS3 after HDD upgrade
