Forced update issues!!

Has anyone come across any forced update to 3.42 with auto update swithced off whilst online, most people want to play around with the online bypass options but is it really safe. Can sony update ur console without ur consent like is says in their user agreement or not? BIG QUESTION!!

If Auto Update is on, then they can update (cause having it on means you agree pretty much)
if it is off then they can't at all
The proxy will be temp i bet, Sony fixed it before they can do it again (but it will pop again),
just bought a new PS3 today

yes, even though the option is always there, it can't be used unless your a plus memeber

I dont beleive there are games out YET that are mandatory to update.. id be expecting new games around december maybe for games that could have but maybe not but most likely will have a mandatory update..

Even on ps+ firmware will NOT be installed automatically.
You have to accept agreement before Install.
It will however download it.

You could set up firewall rules on your router to block all ports except port 21 (the port FTP uses)

What I have done is bound the mac id of my PS3 to a specific IP in my router, then created a rule to block traffic to and from fus01.ps3.update.playstation.net

This blocked the ability to log into the PSN or to find firmware updates but still allows the PS3 to find game updates and access anything else on the internet, such as netflix 8).
