Flickering graphics, mostly GT5
Flickering graphics, mostly GT5 –

Even when playing using the original disc I'm getting bad flickering. Sometimes it looks as if I am rapidly pressing the look behind (rear view) button while racing. One would point to the laser, could it be dirty? The machine is still under 1 year old so no chance of opening it. In the entire year the machine has only backed up 4 games and since then their has always been a disk inside but the laser has never really been used. Not even for DVD/Blu-Ray movies. I read that it could be a "handshake" issue between the TV & PS3. Some other minor flickering issues are temporarily fixed by unplugging the HDMI cable while it is flickering and then reinsert it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You could use the default Scart-cables and if it doesn't flicker with them, you can be sure that nothing is wrong with the game or the disk/laser (well a bad or dirty laser wouldn't make much sense but anyway)
Then you could try a different TV with different cables.

Old school Scart cables, would never have thought of that. Thanks, I shall give it a try. (If I don't have a problem with Scart, it surely has to be HDMI cable handshake issue. And my cable is not cheap but 4 years old.)

Why don't you try another HDMI cable?

I don't have any extra HDMI cables laying around. Might borrow one to see if the problem persists.

Tried another controller?
Might have a dodgy "look behind" button.

Hi d@rk51d3, after trying all the above I did exactly that on the weekend and yes it is the controller. +1

haha
imagine how much it would have cost you just for "repairing" the whole graphic-output-whatever
a friend of mine had a similair problem but it was more like the button was sticking to the rest of the controller, you could try to take it apart, clean it up a bit, and put it back together

It still has 4 months of it's warranty left, will be taking it back. Otherwise I would have stripped the bugger in a heart beat. Thanks for the advice though. +1
