Firmware Questions

Hi all! I just bought a PS3 Slim 250 gb running OFW 3.72 and am very excited. Naturally the first thing I want to do is jailbreak ( having rooted numerous phones, jailbroken all my ipods and loaded some CFW onto my psp, I'm no stranger). I do have a few questions though. First I've done some research and as of right now found there is no jailbreak available for my FW. Correct?? In fact the only way I've found that I could get a jailbreak is to buy an E-flasher and downgrade to 3.55. Now as of right now I would like to watch netflix and can not do so with the current firmware I'm on. I'm scared to update though as I don't want to make my potential jail-breakablilty even more difficult. What's your opinion on this? Would you buy an E-Flasher, update, or wait? Whats you opinion?? Also, in regards to using PSN with a jailbroken PS3. Let's say that a jailbreak for 4.10 came out. Would it be safe to play online with a LEGALLY bought disc and not cheat, hack etc.....? I'm just wondering if Sony detects if your running a pirated copy and bans or if they detect the CFW regardless if your playing a legal disc and bans you? And just to say I have looked in numerous sources for my questions and have not found an answer that is direct enough. Thanks everyone!!!!!!

Stopped reading after you said you have 3.72 bottom line if you dont know how to Soldier dont bother and also there is no what if there is impossible to have a cfw over 3.55 do yourself a favor and sell your PS3 and buy a ps3 with 3.55

stopped reading too. like darkman said it will be much easier to sell your ps3 and get one from a pawn shop that has 3.55 or lower. also you can not get on PSN in any way shape or form with custom firmware which means no netflix. you have to decide what's more important to you. If you decide to try to downgrade, read up on the E3 flasher but it shouldn't be attempted if you can't solder. It is only worth doing that if your base firmware is 3.55 or lower and since you say you just bought it with 3.72 it sounds like you're out of luck on downgrading so it sounds like your only option is to sell this one and buy an older one

yea u should go to a pawn shop n buy the cheapest one, and if u want u could do what i always do, go buy a 320 ps3 from a store and take out the hard drive and put the one u just bought from the pawn shop back in the ps3 and take it to get your money back but remember u have to put the fw back on b4 returning to store

Not an expert but sort of in the same situation and at least bothered reading:

- If you want backups and stuff right now, you'll have to get an e3 flasher. It does not require soldering as far as I know but is quite costly (goes for about 90€ here in Europe).
- If it's just netflix and you do not really care about homebrew for now, update to 4.00 (with bypass) or 4.10. Should give you all functionality of a normal PS3.
- Playing the waiting game for a JB could take a long time as it could be in a few weeks. Get another second hand PS3 if you really require homebrew (although 3.55 PS3s are really scarce nowadays, since everyone who doesn't do homebrew just updates).

About the PSN, I think it only checks the games you're playing. If you're playing backups, ban could be imminent. If you're just running CFW but have no custom files installed (including homebrew), you should be safe.

Hopefully this helps you out, only one thing I'm not sure if how many times you can use the e3 flasher. I think it's once per console... (I'm currently with a 250gb PS3 Slim and also wondering if I should just use it for real games or buy an e3 flasher and dual boot)

It is completely unknown when a new custom firmware will come out. It has been a year since the last one. A new one could come out tomorrow, a week from now, a year from now, or never. It's false hope to say "in a few weeks"

Not only is that completely immoral, it is also illegal in most places. It's considered theft and fraud. Don't advise people to commit crimes. It's not you that could face jail time
