Few questions from a newbie

Basically I have been following a lot of the recent things happen with keys etc. things seem to be really opening up and one of the things that seems to be springing up here and there is people decrypting the ps2 emu part. I have an old phat ps3 60gb backwards compatable console on FW 3.41 with a dead disk drive which im sure as hell not paying out on repairs for again. But I would like my backwards compat back.

So first question is the current JB capable of backwards compat from a file installed on the HDD? I know people are working on this sort of thing in their current key related escapade but there is so much going on in there its hard for a newbie to figure out what is going on.

Second question is kind of a double question, I only have a WinXP 32x laptop to work with too, and an upgrade to the USB slot is impossible which puts PSgroove out the window, So are there any OS or FW that I could use which would be ok with my laptop without any usb adjustments? And also which JB would you recommend? So many to choose from

I already have a slim on OFW so I dont really care even if im stuck with 3.41 even with the current progress, I just want some use from the damn phat console since its nothing but an oversized paperweight at the moment

Sorry if that was a bit overkill guys, guess im pretty confused since all I have messed with before is PSP, my main question would be though, is there any way to use JB witouth having to change the usb card on the pc?

i think u need a external hdd that is fat32 formatted

when u insert ur usb exthdd then the ps3 will read it but it needs to be formatted fat32

Thanks, I have a couple of externals so hopefully one will work, heard some have issues with slow down
