external storage of internal HDD only games

Is it possible to backup and store an internal HDD only compatible game (one w/ files >4gb) on to an external HDD. For instance, could I dump the game on the internal then use FTP to move it to another drive. Later, move the game back to the internal for playing? Does anyone have experience w/ this? If there is a way of doing this, could I get a short tutorial. Just wanted to know B4 I waste time trying. Especially if someone already has tried. I'm gonna play with FTP for the first time tomorrow.

Forgive me in advance if someone has already answered this.

Yes you can.
You dont need any tutorial for this.
Just move them back and forth with the FTP.
