I just so happen to have a 1TB Western Digital My Book Essential. I formatted it to FAT32, however, it is not showing up on my PS3 when I plug it in via USB.
Anybody have any idea what the problem could be?
EDIT: It seems to be listed as a "Local Drive" when plugged into my PC, instead of External/Removable Media. Could this be a problem?
make sure u formatted it to fat32 and not exfat

You will notice, when plugging into windows a usb thumb will be under the removable drives heading, this western digital drive will be with your c: drive under hard disk drives.
Yep, checked all USB drives.
It may just be the HDD itself. People say that some WD ones have some kind of program/protection thing, but I've seen a ton of other people use an Essential on their PS3. huh.
The Western Digital Passport book things have a security partition on the new ones, they also caused problems on the Wii..
i'd check that out.
