the updates have something to do with dev_flash as i have deleted everything out of the bm folder on ps3 except the gamez one yet even without an eboot.bin or param.sfo its asking me to update to 3.42

Because you let the damn update to go half way through, or it did something to your settings to require this on startup.
Sony is desperate, willing to make this to act even like a virus.
if it is so it should be in this path
    dev_hdd0/vsh/task

Anyhow to get more in-depth on WHEN sony started the Killing-Job and finished it!

PSJailbreak (released to the world - Aug. 19)
Sony repacks the CORE_OS (lvl1) and signs it off on 8/31/2010 12:54pm
Sony then repacks the DEV_FLASH (lvl2) and signs it off on 9/1/2010 7:24am
Sony then tests it for 1 week (all forms of "jailbreak") and releases it 9/7/2010

So for F1 2010 to have this same v3.42 tree it would have to be done after 9/1/2010 sign-off of LVL2.

for one that makes no sense if you go halfway through an update and cancel(which u cant really) or cut the power to system you will end up with a expensive paperweight

i should know something like this happened to my first psp(damn carpet)

all that it did was ask me to update to 3.42 and i clicked no and it went back to the xmb but eve after puttin ght right sfo back using the ftp server. restarting console both in jb mode and non it will ask me to install 3.42 even if the eboot.bin is no longer there lol

This SFO editor you speak of, is there one available for Mac?
How different are these from the PSP ones? I wrote an app that deals with these for the PSP on Mac OS X ~ 3 years ago that may be suitable. Is there a wiki somewhere that has the offsets, etc enumerated or source for the win32 SFO editor?

Think this virus wants to start itself on startup,if it is so it should be in this path:
    dev_hdd0/vsh/task
or something like that, search with ftp client all your hard drive for PS3UPDAT.PUP

Good question. That i do not know, but i think the folks at http://lan.st should be able to help. RichDevX and Hellfire wrote the Windows app, and i'm pretty sure they are active on that dev forum i just linked

Would be awesome if you could get something cooked up for us macheads

Edit: Hellcat is the operator of that website, so he'll be the best bet to hit up

I think I'm just going to check back tomorrow when someone with the disc and the sense to submit this information has come forward on here because it don't look like it's going to happen any time soon...

People might be worried now at this stage but for me this is the fun part. These discs will be unlocked one way or another and I'm dieing to see how they're going to do it.

I say, sit back and enjoy the show...
