Download instead of backup?
Download instead of backup? –

I've been wondering if it makes more sense to just download games instead of backing up from disc. With a fast uncapped connection it seems to actually be quicker to download and transfer. Plus there's the wear on the laser if you have tons of games to rip.
BTW, is downloading games you already own illegal everywhere or just some countries?

AFAIK, downloading some games you own is legal in some countries.
Because EVERY time this topic is brought up, there is a RANT and RAVE about priacy this and piracy that, expect a flame war.
I just try to live by one rule:
Don't download copyrighted material.
Live by it and you'll be OK.

This site lives by the mottoes "Don't download copyrighted material regardless of whether you own it or not." and "Rip Your Own."

Would be nice if this didn't turn into a flame war about piracy but yeah I can see it happening.
I was just curious to see if anyone else found it easier/quicker to just download instead of ripping their games. It's the height of laziness but not having to insert/remove discs is a plus for me, lol.

I dunno, I rip mine directly from the original cause it just seemed like the logical thing to do. There aren't a lot of games available online as far as I can tell. But if the games are already online it would be a lot easier to just queue 'em up and FTP them then to load the discs, tell backup manager to copy, and click through all the prompts you get.

It depends on what country you are in, but chances are if you have the USA version, you are from the US. If that's the case, it's illegal to download the EUR version. It's also illegal to download the USA version believe it or not.
