Hi, I'm posting as a last resort, since I guess it an unbeknown issue to most people.

I recently purchased a ps3 SLIM that has model number cech25----.
According to internet sources, this means it was manufactured in the july 2010 batch (or so it is, pardon). Purportedly these machines are supposed to work with a base fw of 3.41 .

My SLIM ps3 came pre-installed with fw3.50. I then proceeded to downgrade my machine with this information in mind.

I used a ti-84+ calculator to act as the jig. I used a FAT32 empty thumbdrive to store the first self file and the modified 3.41 update.

The conundrum arrived in a few minutes when the green led kept flashing indefinitely. It was unusual because according to ALL guides currently available, the ps3 should shutdown automatically after the flashing process (ie downgrade). I tried other modified 3.41 fws from different sources from different forums and they don't work as well. The log file always return with "failure".

Hereby I appeal to all seasoned pros to do myself, and all other vexed SLIM ps3 owners who unfortunately are in the same plight, a favor, by answering:

    1) Is a downgrade on such SLIM machines, especially those pre-installed with fw3.5 as aforementioned, feasible and viable now, as of december 2010?

    2) If yes, how? Any detailed elaboration w/o JARGONS would REALLY help.

    3) If no, any alternatives? Or should I suck my thumb and wait for a fw3.5 jailbreak?

I emphasize on the SLIM ps3, because, well, i noticed all fat ps3s are able to downgrade perfectly, as threads and videos are most often written with the fat ps3 in mind(evidence: "fat" instructions, "fat" consoles downgraded in vids). Hence please do not reply if you only have experience/knowledge with the fat ones.

To the best for my knowledge in the status quo, there is scarce information on how to downgrade the SLIM ps3, especially for ps3s owners like me who owns the newest models.

Before anyone decries that it does not matters, again just count how many unanswered posts there are on multifarious forums regarding the indefinitely flashing green light problem that persists on the downgrading process on SLIM ps3s.

    Thank you!

My god. I wonder if there's already a thread called, "Downgrading a PS3 that came with 3.50"....hrm, I wonder if this might have been discussed. I bet if you SEARCH you might find your answer.

Splendid, thank you for the prompt reply.

Au contraire, I have already mentioned that I've literally combed through many forums (PSX-scene, ps3hacks, whatever) including this one.

You may doubt what I've written.
So I've decided to go along with your kind advice to SEARCH but the instructions given in those posts are the exact same as what I've already done.

I believe that I would possess the minimum intelligence required to follow instructions given on forums like these. Even if I were not, I believe I can 'monkey-see-monkey-do' steps given in a youtube video. Please SEARCH youtube for that video.

I'm not trying to bash you, but you're honestly being unhelpful. Like I've said it's my last resort, for me at least. If you could be so prompt in replying, could you, or any other kind soul, have pointed out exactly where that thread may be located at?

    Good god, good day.

See, there's a post right there. Did you read through that first?

And, obviously you didn't find the thread or follow the instructions, because there is no mention of you trying to downgrade to 3.15 first. Just further goes to prove my point, search first and then ask questions.

Edit: And you can argue that my post wasn't helpful, but I did tell you exactly what to look for and if you didn't follow the directions listed there, then that's not my fault.

Same here. I've been following the 2 threads (including that one) in this forum that discuss the issue:

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/dow...3-50-fw-72900/ (Downgrade from preinstaled 3.50 fw)

    and

http://psx-scene.com/forums/f118/bra...adeable-73209/ (Brand New PS3, 3.5 firmware and NOT DOWNGRADEABLE?!?)

as well as a few other sites. I have tried their suggestions, repeatedly, for 3 days now. I think it's safe to say that I have searched. The new units that did have success were the CECH-2504 models, not the CECH-2512.

Now, having said that, I think that this is a new issue that's just coming up with the CECH-2512B that come preinstalled with 3.50. They seem to only accept a 3.50 FW update and reject everything else below.

I am no expert, but I have researched and I have tried. Flame all you want, but I think it should be safe to point out that this might be worth treating as a new issue that's just popping up.

    BTW, for information's sake:

    1. I entered service mode using psfServiceMod (12-13-2010 version) on an HTC Desire.

    2. Tried the usual Mod 3.14 PUP + self 1, brick (or partial, since it was reversible with 3.50 using the same process).

    3. Reverted to 3.50.

    4. Tried 3.15 debug (don't start flaming that it's nonsense to try a debug FW on a retail unit, because I was just following a seemingly tested method). Fail.

    5. 3.15 retail. Fail.

    6. 3.41 retail. Fail.

    7. Reverted to 3.50 successfully, but right back where I started.

Yea, judging from the number of new posts about this, I would say there's a good chance that current methods will not work for downgrading some of these models.

Man you are very short with people. I am pretty sure, just like me, he read a lot of material before he ever even started. The point is, THESE CONSOLES WILL NOT DOWNGRADE using the method we have currently, for whatever reason. This is totally real and is happening.
