Downgrade from 3.55 KMEAW to OFW 3.41 with faulty BR Drive, is it possible ?

Hi,

I've got a fat 60gb ps3 (euro version) which is on 3.55 KMEAW. The only problem is that the BR drive on it is dead and I want to change it. I've got a spare with the board. I saw a lot of tutorials which cover that and I think it ll be fine on this part. (3.55 > 3.41 > 3.15)

The only question I have : Is it possible to downgrade from 3.55 KMEAW to 3.41 OFW.

I fear a fail by going back to 3.55 OFW with my faulty BR drive ?

Just buy a new drive and put it inside your ps3. When ready, downgrade then go back to the firmware you want (i suppose a kmeaw again), drive will be reprogrammed, and adapted, and you will have kmeaw + a working BD drive

However I already got the new drive

In fact, what I did was : leaving the bad br drive in the console. downgrade from 3.55 kmeaw to 3.41 then 2.30 : flawless
remove the bad br drive, put the new one.
I started with my usb stick and the files to pair the new br drive.
First I got a Fail with a big NG in the background. The connector from the br drive to the motherboard was faulty... I put a new one, pairing was OK. Then it put the 2.30 firmware. Finally I put the ps3 out of recovery mode. Upgrade to 3.55 OFW then 3.55 KMEAW

And your BD drive works, with movies too? Pleased to help

yup, what I did when pairing was ok : I put a BR Movie in it, it launched in service mode but said it needed a newer firmware version. So I kicked it out of recovery mode, then upgraded to 3.55 and put that bluray again : it worked ... Strange is I got a fat ps3 with 256 mb nand, which seemed to loose that functionality by downgrading ..
I had my DRL backed up anyway

My BD is dead during the downgrade, no more movies
