Downgrade 3.55 and keep bluray
Downgrade 3.55 and keep bluray –
01-14-2011,12:34 PM
I currently have a 60gb phat with geo's jb 3.55 cfw installed and im planning on downgrading in the next few days when my dongle arrives. now my question is, what files would I need to backup to keep bluray playback??
if this is possible, what would I need to use to backup the right files?
Cheers

Run the newest blu-ray movie you can find on your PS3. Once you've done that, install Blackb0x FTP server for 3.55 and backup all of the dev_flash locations to your PC. Once you've done that, go ahead and downgrade. After downgrade, reinstall Blackb0x FTP server and copy all of dev_flash3 back over again (these are your blu-ray playback files). Now, mind you, I told you to backup all of your dev_flash locations (there are 3 of them) just so you have a valid backup. You won't need to restore any of the other sections other then dev_flash3.

Thanks for your reply. that seems pretty straight forward! will get that done and then I just got to wait for my dongle to arrive :-)

After looking at that link my console is CECHC so I would love bluray playback if I DIDNT back up first

is it necessary to run the latest blu ray movie even though youve mad a backup of your flash?

I would just to be safe. I'm not completely familar with what is needed/not needed to do, because I never downgraded any of my consoles, but I did sit in the how to fix blu-ray thread for a long while before I gave up on reading/refreshing it. The one truth I know is that you have had to play a blu-ray on your PS3 and then make a backup of the dev_flash3 location. Now, I'm not sure if you need to play the newest blu-ray you can find first though. At this point, if you can get a new blu-ray (whether you rent it, borrow, or buy it) and play it in your PS3 and then make a backup of your dev_flash3, you'd be about as safe as you could be.

You will need to know the Blu-Ray with the highest MKB you played last or restore from a backup of Flash 3.
Refer to this thread to learn more about recovering from lost BRD playback:
A Working Way To Restore Your Blu-Ray Playback! - Now with easy to use PHP Script!
Right now it looks like your best bet is to:
Install GeoHot 3.55
Install the signed for GeoHot 3.55 BlackB0x_FTP application.
Then FTP into the PS3 and make copies of Flash3.
(I recommend making a copy of Flash 1, 2 and 3 plus the ACT.DAT if you want your PSN games working again)
Then you can downgrade without much worry.
You may want to wait to see where GeoHots 3.55 takes us.
You never know, it maybe unnecessary to ever downgrade in the future
Right now 3.55 is the only way to keep your PSN games permanently activated.
Otherwise you'll have to restore your ACT.DAT every time the PS3 is restarted if you want to play activated PSN games.
You should know that Sony can check your PS3 anytime they want.
As long its connected to the Internet it reports back to Sony on a constant basis.

you could also just use Awesome File Manager and copy the files to your USB storage...
a little easier...

Really?
Wow, Really?
