Recently I copied black ops 2 to the internal HD of my PS3 slim. It had true blue CFW 3.55 v2.7 on it. when I went to run the game it said there was a game update (1.02) so I installed it. After the update my firmware was moved up to 4.11 but it also says True Blue V 2.7 next to the FW version. I thought I had screwed up all my back ups but somehow all my back ups still work and I am able to put the PS3 back to OFW 3.55 then into True blue 3.55 FW then the firmware info changes itself back to 4.11 True Blue 2.7. I had the TB dongle in the console when it updated. My question is why did the game update not block all homebrew applications and how come I am still able to downgrade the console without hardware extras? This just doesn't make sense to me..

tb firmware 2.7 has a spoof 4.11 built in so no worries on that just curious as to y you still use that firmware as its old news since all the new fw releases although i still have kmeaw on mine.

I did not know that. As far as updating my PS3, I dont really see a use for it at the moment. With my luck I'd probally brick my console plus all the backups are patched for 3.55 or TB

TB 2.7 firmware have a spoof it just like @BadBoyz said which is why you see them 4.11 there.
But most importantly as much as I STRESS this. You dont need game updates because you wont be able to go online anyway. Just get the patched eboot and make small modifications and play.

Which is why I stress my love for open manager because that's all I basically did got whatever eboot patch and just ran my games. Just get the eboot and modify the PSRAM.SFO (If it's called that) and you are good nothing more or nothing less.

FYI - Nothing is wrong with TB 2.7 firmware because all patches will work for it anyway.
