Does SONY update to latest FW when they repair PS3?

i have an old YLOD ps3 thats gotta be running >3.55

if i send it into sony for repair, do they touch the firmware? will they upgrade it to 3.61?

anyone know?

If its an old one (Phat) you may be able to get away with saying you run Linux on it, if the F/W is below 3.15, you could maybe get them to leave it alone that way, if not I cant see them shipping out machines with less then 3.6+

linux reason sounds like it'll work but i dont know exactly what firmware it has. its a 2007 phat thats been dead for over a year and it had the latest at the time. anyway to firmware check a dead console? lol

so updating the firmware ISNT required, thats good to know. theres a console repair place nearby and i could probably make the request to the guy not to update it. but i dont know how well he repairs vs sony.

i've dealt with sony repair twice before and know they can get it working and back to me pretty fast. i'd like to use their service if anyone knows for a fact they wont update.

they dont repair it ( or atleast you wont get that one back ) what they do is sent you a repaired one and take yours away for repair, you keep the one they give you. no they dont update them your get what ever FW it came to them with. could be any FW. had one that was 3.15 and another was 3.41 that was when 3.56 was new out.

my guess: they will just send u a different ps3. but if they repair the same one you can tell them not to upgrade the frimware and they wont.

they do, my friend gave them his PS3 for repair and he got 3.56(he had 3.41)

When my power supply went out (feb 2010) i gave mimes to sony and they fixed it formatted my hdd

but they did not update (i was on 3.15) the thing.I know the system i gave them was mines cus i carved my name on the side of it.

I'm sure they probably changed policy on this after the advent of jailbreak.
