Does backup manager 2 work if there is no bluray drive connected to the console?

Hello!
Does backup manager 2 work if there is no bluray drive connected to the console? I'm aware it's working for some games with the bluray lenses broken, but I'm going to buy a cheap console with the bluray removed hoping this hack will support all games just like the old version in the future...
Did anyone ever tried to disconnect the bluray and try this trick or something?

yeah i want to know this too as my drive is broken...

i have jailbroke my ps3 and installed things fine... but cant get games to load... just goes back to XMB

Does the system boot if there is no Blu-Ray connected ?

I had a similar problem not long ago and BEWARE !!!
that if the ps3 with no bluray drive isn't in 3.41 you cannot update at all
and you cannot use jailbreak, just so you know...
but im not quiet sure if it will work if there isn't a bluray at all, but it might work
just gotta get some confirmations by people who have similar problem.

But the ps3 will still boot though even if there isn't a BR drive in there...

Oh yea, I'm talking about 3.41 fw with JB of course...

or maybe there is someone here with a opened up ps3 today working on it or something and can test this for 2 minutes, I'd really appreciate it since I've managed to get that cheap deal for tomorrow morning...

sorry dude but not taking my ps3 apart again... i would have thought it would boot up without drive tho... i say this coz mine doesnt work... wont register any discs and my ps3 does all the other shit still

think i need new motor or something as the discs go in and the blue light comes on... but disc doesnt even try to spin...

I've tried it and as soon as you launch the backup manager your PS3 will freeze. Too bad, I really wanted to replace my BDR drive with an ext HDD :]

Im very interested in this too as i have a 80gig. The ribbon that goes from the blu ray to the ps3 motherboard is broken. Everytime i try to boot backup manager etc it goes to a black screen

so as mine. n i hv a 40gb ps3 one of the classics heheh
searched e-bay n cudnt find anythin to replace da motor.
