Do i need to do permisions fix ?
Do i need to do permisions fix ? –

The first payload/ combined payload i used on my ps3 was hermes + Waninkok0 + mathieulh on 3.41.
i noticed that my ps3 started to crash with this. So with some guidance from some of you guys here and reading some of the threads about payloads. i decided to switch to pl3.
i let kakaroto no that pl3 was crashing for me on my ps3 and since then i've been reading some what more about things.
So on pl3 i'm able to take my games from my HD to my PC and use the ps3 game ripper to slim the games down and transfer them back over with no problems. I'm not exactly sure what the permisions fix is and whether i need to apply it since, hermes + Waninkok0 + mathieulh has been loaded on to console. Would i need to load hermes + Waninkok0 + mathieulh back on to my ipod and install the permision.pkg file....
The reason i'm asking this is because, most people are saying if you didn't use hermes before you used pl3 and if you would have just used pl3 straight way with out using hermes, you're ps3 shoudn't be having any problems with crashing which mine is...
Are you willing to catch me up to speed on whether i need to run the permisions fix then revert back to my default pl3 ....
Or would it be possible to restore my ps3 and wipe everything clean, then use pl3 without any traces of hermes being on the console. Then i would no for sure whether pl3 is the problem or the crashing problem is infact because i used hermes first...

Swanny

It's always best to track your issues down and fix that, instead of applying patches without understanding what they really do...
Freezes might be caused by the backup manager u are using. On the older payloads you have deeper accesss to your ps3-system than on the no_unauth_syscall PL3 payload for example. The no_unauth_syscall PL3 payload should provide enough permissions for backup tasks. But some backup managers make use of the escalated permissions even if they are not necessary. If your app runs into an 'access denied' error without knowing how to handle it, you will run into a crash. Same should apply to the app making usage of a systemcalls which is not supported by your payload.
So first thing would be to make sure that you only use apps and payload in proper combination. And remember: If you try every homebrewapp around it is most likely that you will run into crashes, because a lot of the software is coded by hobbyists and buggy as hell.
You should also examine your filesystem via FTP and your Game Content folder in XMB while switching payloads. If there are user-files, which u can see on the one payload but not on the other you should fix that. Best you can do is uninstall the specific data via xmb while on the payload which gives access and than reinstall on your new payload.
Getting into this stuff will help you to understand why your system crashes.
As you might know as a Windows user, reformatting everything and making a fresh start is always a solution but you will most likely run into the same problems again and again.
