04-29-2011,04:25 PM
hi this is Nick from Italy,
im following in the shadow, but now is time to ask.
i got this problem: ps3 shut down at 8% during update from 3.56 to 3.60 due to a mass blackout. result: tuns on and black screen, hdd led on for few sec, stays on green and then off, no led flashing at all.
not able to downgrade with ps3usbjailbreak (red led on after boot procedure black screen)
is there any chance to recover? im good in soldering and i have infectus 2 (used for some mods on xbox)
pls i need help

I have seen a thread somewhere on here where a guy recovered using the Infectus..difference is he got the Red Screen of Death instead of not even coming on.....I swear, the PS3 is too freakin fragile with things

As of 1/26/2011:
3.60 Now Live!
PS3 80GB Non-BC >> Waninkoko 3.55 >> Kmeaw 3.55>> Sold!
Sure-fire way to prevent PSN Bans: Update to OFW!

Have you tried going into real recovery mode to start a new update ?
I mean the mode you get by holding down the 'On' button longer than normal as you start the console
You'll need an update PUP file placed properly on a FAT32 formatted USB drive that you insert in the PS3. The needed PUP file and instructions for how to use it should be available at Sony's own sites as well as many homebrew sites. (I'm pretty sure they can be found somewhere on this site too.)

That would not have worked even if your update had finished normally.
Once you are on 3.60 there is no return, at least not by any homebrew methods yet invented. Ensuring this is the only reason for which OFW 3.60 was created. All existing 'downgrade' methods work only for some older firmwares, but not for 3.60...
is there any chance to recover?
There may be a chance to recover, but only by using official Sony methods.
You already had firmware 3.56 when you started the last update, which means that your console was beyond any help that homebrews could have given, since none of them can work above firmware 3.55 (as yet).

That will not help. The Infectus site has no further news or downloads for the PS3 beyond the old stuff from May 2007, four years ago (in a few days). And their boasts about downgrading from OFW 1.6 to OFW 1.5 are not very impressive, as Sony was not even trying to 'defend' against homebrew stuff back then, since none existed. Today Sony has rewritten the PS3 firmware several times already, aiming to make homebrew-assisted downgrading impossible, and so far OFW 3.56 and above are successful at that task.
Since no modern homebrew software or hardware can work with OFW 3.56 or 3.60, I'm very sure that some old stuff from 2007 can't do anything about it either.
Yes, of course. But unfortunately I don't think any jailbreak or homebrew stuff can help you, since your PS3 already was above firmware 3.55.
Your best chance, like I said above, is to prepare a firmware recovery package on a USB drive and then boot into recovery mode to install that firmware. This is how Sony intended for people to recover after trashing the system. But normally this only involves trashing the HDD, whereas a power loss during an upgrade involves a risk of having trashed the internal flash memory holding the firmware. And that's the kind of thing that can brick a PS3.
If you do manage to recover a working firmware, I'm afraid you'll still lose HDD content, as the PS3 likes to reformat the HDD after a firmware recovery.
Good Luck!
