Dirt Slow FTP Speeds - Help!
Dirt Slow FTP Speeds - Help! –

Hey guys. When trying to FTP anything to my PS3, I get at best 500 kb/s. Trying to get jb folders with 4+ gb files to my internal PS3 HDD is impossible as it keeps timing out on me. And even when successful, a full game may take up to 14-20 hours. My connection is wireless. On my PS3, I'm using Blackbox FTP 1.2, though I've tried FTP-Light and don't get any better speeds. On my comp, I've tried both Filezilla and FlashFXP. No dice. I look at posts and see people easily getting 40-50 MB/s. I'm certainly not lacking in bandwidth or connection speed, so I'm lost. Help! Thanks in advance guys.

Wireless connection sounds like your problem here. I am still using Blackbox 1.1 (seems more stable imo) and Filezilla or FlashFXP but am connected via a Cat 6 cable to the PS3. If your router supports Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000 you will obviously get faster speeds. Mine doesn't but I get still get speeds around 25Mbps (not too bad). Theres still a big wait transferring some larger games but i recommend investing in a decent cable and your speeds will go up.

I dont have a laptop. My computer is upstairs. I'd have to daisy chain like 150' of Cat 6 just to get near my PS3. Is that normal for wireless transfer speeds though? And what about the timeouts? I can leave my PS3 running all night only to find out a 9 gig file times out two hours into things. Tips?

Survival, how do your get your games to FTP via WiFi w/o the large files timing out? Im not sure if it's related, but it seems like the problem occurs once the Blackbox screensaver kicks in.

I get 2mb/s on wireless with the PS3 close to the router. 12mb/s with a wire (from router to a 10/100mbps switch to PS3, gonna try from router to PS3 soon). Never had a problem with timeouts on wireless, I don't use it that much though, had to use it once because my switch stopped functioning.
