the different ways to jail break or modd ps3 to play backups

iv been confused about doing this to my ps3. i softmodded my wii last year which there was only 2 ways of doing it depending what firmware you on.

but the ps3 seems like theres lots of different ways of doing it.

my question is whats the different ways of getting the ps3 to play backups pls?

There's no different ways, just different devices. Pick one, use it on your PS3, install a BM, and play backups/homebrew

You have several options:

1-Maybe you have a phone (iphone, several htc phone) capable of jailbreaking the ps3.

2-Maybe you have a dingoo A320 or a calculator like the TI84 + or TI89 and then you can JB with them.

3-Buy a usb dongle (price starts at about 12$ with shipping included worldwide).

And for extra info have a look around this forum.

ok thanks for that i did find that before but i wasnt sure if they where the dongle i needed.

from reading that would i be best getting the X3Max 128KB 32bit MCU USB Development Board with Case or is there a better one i could get?

Either that or the XPLAIN are probably the 2 best on the market right now. The XPLAIN is more of a dev board, wheras the x3max is specifically for ps jailbreaking.

is it better for me to get a dev board for updating?

Both are good solutions. Dev boards are probably going to go the distance though. Get yourself a Minimus/Maximus/Teensy/XPLAIN or something based off of those. They will always have the newest updates, whereas a clone, you'll have to wait till they come out with the update themselves.
