Different ways to brick a PS3 - Full Brick, Semi-Brick, etc –

I was wondering, what are the different ways in which a PS3 can be bricked and which ways are recoverable? I don't really understand as much about the PS3 system as I do about other consoles, so I thought it would be interesting to find out exactly how PS3 bricks occur, how deep in the system they go and maybe even compile a list of the do's and don'ts. Anyone have any information on the subject or understand what goes into certain bricks that make them either recoverable or unrecoverable? I understand it's possible to recover from a semi-brick using a jigkick however this doesn't apply in the case of a full brick.
Of course, the PS3 might be so different to other consoles that people don't really understand why, or it might not even be worth trying to...
