Even if Sony could do this, I doubt they would. People would just start buying 3rd party controllers to work around it.

If they do this, then it would require that the controller comes shipped with a disk so people can install the firmware. I doubt this would ever happen.

if that were your only controller, how would you update your ps3 to be able to use it in the first place? i think the answer is obvious.
