De-Mod PS3! The How's, how's and how's.

Now, I'm not very active at this forum, although I'm a daily poster at many other forums, and I know how annoying it can be when a forum noob just opens a new threat with just a 'simple question'.
I think I'm in that position now. Still I really hope someone can help me!

So it's like this, I'm still on CF 3.55 Kmeaw, but I got a little bored, not being able to backup the new games and not being able to play online.
So I thought maybe I should just de-mod my ps3, and buy COD.

Now what I need to know is.

*1. Can I de-mod my PS3 and play online again? Can I do that just by updating the system firmware? (ofcourse I understand my playstation wont be modded anymore so I cant play backup games anymore)

*2. Is there any chance of getting banned from PSN or a brick?

*3. Are there things I need to know? / Does anyone have Tips?

*4. Should I really do this?


For anyone who also wants to upgade their firmware to the latest.
1. Delete all "illegal" files (like homebrew)
2. Use PSNinja: Erase memory + Replace memory
3. Delete PSNinja
4. Search for a Sony 3.55 Official Firmware on the web.
5. Install that 3.55 OFW on your PS3 by usb.
6. When 3.55 OFW is installed click on System Update.
7. Let the system update to the latest firmware and you can go back online again.

just because your a girl, u probably aren't but who cares, helping others is what i do, me and my main man scooby doo, that didn't make too much sense but i tried to drop a line, ok but here are the answers to your questions:

yes just make sure u got everything off it, it might not make a difference but if sony is trying to update your ps3 and theres a file that shouldn't be there, it might mess up the update, i would say backup the hhd, then format it, get any information things like anything to do with hacking it

yes but its small and also if u have been online when u could go online with a jb ps3, then there is a chance, i suggest u go get one of those ps3 info changer thing, that changes the ps3 identification info, so if u were banned u aren't anymore

*3. Are there things I need to know? / Does anyone have Tips?
why would do this, jk, i don't care, its your choice. have fun, and if u have errors and stuff happening when do this, check if u are under warranty, if not try to see if u can get it repaired or get it downgrade it to be able to mod it or u could get the dual nand thing. also if u can't solder, get a pro to do the downgrade

*4. Should I really do this?
for myself i got a 360 for online, sony and the playstation brand are #1 in my heart, than microsoft and than nintendo, it maybe a tie between nintendo and microsoft, i have had a lot of game consoles, my ps3 is jb, my brother gots one but its ain't anymore, he updated, even though i play xbox a lot more playstation 3 is better, i just use xbox because its easier to mod and i can play online, ps3 gots better games, but i am fine staying offline, since most of the good multiplayer games are on both platforms and also that ps3 has a lot more single player games that are good

If COD is your only reason to "de-mod"...DONT DO IT! ARE YOU NUTS!?!...wait, not fair, let me explain, at least, in my opinion ,why you shouldn't. Yes COD is a great game, but if you own the last 2 or 3 like I do...then it's kind-a-like the same dog, with a different collar. Sure you'll have fun getting to prestige and killing a few noobs along the way, and you'll wonder what the best load out is, and even Youtube the best hiding spots...but then when you're done...that's pretty much all youll have...COD....or any new few games you would want to buy. I personally think you should not give up a very valuable one-of-a-kind hacked system, for a very-easily-findable-on-a-store-shelf-any-day-of-the-week system.

There is always the True Blue, or wait for that to be cracked and cloned.

If you "unmod" it, just make sure no internal files like certificates have been changed... for those who where using online and psn back in the days.

Basically, do a back-up. Reformat, restore, update.

I still got my doubts about really doing this.. Maybe I'll save some money to buy a second PS3, cause I really want to play COD..

truebluejb2.com. It is the latest available device for the PS3, that allows you to play new games with "specials eboots" that the team releases. So for instance, COD might already be one of those games you could play... or it might be added to the list very soon.

I mean basically, you are giving up a lot if you upgrade, and it might take A LOT to downgrade it back when you get tired of Sony's BS. So perhaps a seoncd console (360 or ps3) would be a good idea, but in your case the True Blue could be the answer you are looking for.
