Custom firmware won't install !! =S help please??

Can someone please help??? i am trying to install the v1.2 cfw but it keeps saying no application data found ... and the usb is fat32, and the update is in: PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP ... =S

scrape the above ... got into rexovery mode... neva seen that menu before then pressed start and select and it worked =D .. cool =D

this is correct
so if it not installing in normal mode go into recovery

1. PS3 is off
2. Push and hold On Button, continue holding it until PS3 turns off
3. Push and hold again and wait until you hear 2 beeps, then release
3. Connect PS controller and go into system update

What are these cfw supposed to do? There isn't any major headlines about them.
