Well its best to have games on external USB HD, but if you dont got one you either use a flash drive to transfer patch files to ps3 or use FTP via a lan connection between PC and PS3.
You dont need to copy the games to PC that would be a bad idea cause games are like anywhere from 4-45GB where patches are really small in comparison megabytes generally.

Are you talking about fx files as in shader code, or did you mean to type 'fix' files?

well just rip the game to internal or external, if external usb then just plug into PC take files you want, if internal you'll have to FTP the files you want over to PC.

Are you not on CFW or something? If your not most PC bluray readers have problems reading PS3 discs (prolly due to encryption/protection), but a select few can.

Also one more thing, if your NOT on cfw you can just download the game being it seems you actually own the disc and get the files that way as well.
(But we cant help you with downloading)

To be honest I think the PC route will take you forever FTP fail all the time. Best thing is to get a NTFS external HD to copy your 4gb+ games... when I used to have a CFW ps3 that is ALWAYS the effective way to do it.
