Becus25 has released a PC tool called PS3356LV12 which allows you to decrypt firmware v3.56 CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg, lv1.self, and lv2_kernel.self files.

Becus25:
"This tool allows you to decrypt CORE_OS_PACKAGE.pkg, lv1.self and lv2_kernel.self of 3.56 official firmware."

Usage:
1) Download 3.56 official firmware pup file. (Download)
2) Run the app and browse the file.
3) Push the button. The files will be decrypted and saved in C:\BPS3Dec

I've tried the tool, it extracted lvl1key & lvl2key out of "PS3UPDAT.PUP, v.3.56" to "C:\BLPS3Tools".. First i got an error, pressed "continue", and I have the files shown in the 2nd screenshot.. Now from a noob point of view, I can do nothing out of the extracted keys.. But can someone validate if its possible to create a cfw out of these keys or not?

I bet that from these decrypted files, someone will be able to at least create a Lv2diag.self to get off the factory mode on 3.56

Seems people have found all the needed keys but the private ones, and the private ones might have been sent out by geohot in his latest "rap mp3" check the description of the file it has keys listed

You can find a dozen links to sites promising that you can downgrade from 3.56 but it's not so. There is always a Survey or some such thing. The waste your time at least and sometimes get folks to install OFW

If you don't read it on a site like this one it's suspect.

Yeah i know there's no downgrade from 3.56.. well.. let me explain my situation then. I downgraded mine from 3.55 to 3.41 without any kind of problem. A friend of mine brought me his ps3 so i could downgrade his too (told me it was on 3.55). Well... i put it on service mode and checked, just to make sure, that it was on 3.55 before proceeding... gosh.. it was on 3.56. So I tried to get off the service mode unsuccesfully.. and now I'm waiting for a magical release of a lv2diag.self that could get his ps3 back on track... i gave him mine while waiting hehe.. So the decryption of these 3 files is good news

Those 3 files were decrypted the day after 3.56 came out. Nothing new there.

yeahh hehe that's what i just read on another forum. It's difficult to keep track of improvements because, for example: the files were already decrypted, and later on, a guy full of hope comes and claims that, yesterday, they were finally able to decrypt the files.

No. Do a little bit of searching, or even read the first post in this thread. I don't know how many times in this thread alone does it say there is no downgrade working. If there was a working method, you'd see it on our front page news. As for how the keys work, there's an indepth discussion about it in the 3.56 release thread in the Latest News section of the forum.

Don't ever try something until it is written in this forum that you can do it. This forum has got the bests PS3 coders and testers.

And for the 3.56 downgrade don't lose hope. Sony revoked the masterkey that made the jailbreaking possible, so the coders are now working on the discovery of a new masterkey that will allow them to do whatever they want again. It can take a long time.. it can also take only days... but for now, we can only wait.
