Confused regarding PS3 hard drive, not about FAT32!

No, i will not be asking about "ZOMG" how will the PS3 backup games that are bigger than 4 GB's because of FAT32, instead i am rather confused about the following:

See, soon i will be receiving a second (40 GB) phat PS3 on top of the PS3 slim i currently have for Jail Breaking purposes. My slim has a 640 GB hard drive and is currently running on official firmware 4.2. This is where my confusion comes in.

I would like to use the 640 GB hard drive currently in my slim PS3 inside the new phat PS3 which presumably has official firmware lower than 4.1. I already know how to update the phat PS3 to 4.1 via a USB, but what about the hard drive? Will i be able to use my 640 GB hard drive currently inside my 4.2 firmware slim PS3 inside my upcoming 4.1 firmware phat PS3?

Yes, take it out put it in the phat and format it. If that doesn't work, slap it in a sata capable laptop and do a full reformat.
Also I think that the firmware is stored on the console's flash itself and not the HDD so you should be fine(Correct me if I'm wrong guys). Back up your saves and such though.

If you can get your hands on a MAC and format it to HFS+ then back to FAT, that would help guarantee everything is completely gone. You would also be able to do a block check a lot faster for any errors.

I'm assumming your meaning 3.42 and 3.41 when ya say 4.1 and 4.2 and if so how are you useing or even trying to use 3.42 on your slim for jailbreaking cause if you are let the world know what there doing wrong
