Well, I think it would sure limit it. I am a noob, and used the search function to find any "How to's" on installing the 3.55 firmware. Unfortunately, all I could find were 3.55 downloads that say that I should already know how to install the package. That's wonderful.

How is a new Homebrew supposed to know that the same steps go for the 3.41 that go for the 3.55? There were no how to's to begin with with the 3.55 update. That's why there are these threads currently.

    Thanks.
So you had to figure that out despite the fact I wrote it above I think the percieved arrogance is here for a reason.

    Thanks for the help.

So, to answer the second part of my question, is this method able to allow me to backup my Red Dead Redemption so I can play it off the HDD? According to my research, it appears not, but thought I'd risk asking just the same!

    Are you for real?

If from you're research you are fairly sure that you don't know the answer to something, there's something wrong.

Can you not see that all steps to doing stuff here is done in....STEPS.

You need to break down each bit and search for terms that are relating to that step...

For example, one step you will need to do is

Install a pkg file, now how about searching for....."package"\"install"\"emulator"...

I dunno, use your head. So you might as well download a few hombrew pks's and look at the readme file, a few will surely have clear instructions on how to install...

    1. So that's pkg installation out the way...

    2.....rinse and repeat!

Any IDIOT could get this stuff working - without asking questions that have already been answered, maybe not to the letter but if I an others can work it out so can you. The thing that really pisses people off is the tone of these posts is very demanding and reeks of someone who hasn't even tried A DAMN THING.

My question is ,what's the advantage on going with the 3.55 method, other than the PSN playing? Most games i play off the 3.41 Jailbroken system on internal, external.I just fixed an older PS3 60gb,flux heated the RSX and I get all it's functions back(audio-video) including the failed bluray player, which I was sure I had to replace but no, it was all related to the connection on the RSX.I did read my ass off till 3AM or more.It is however a relief when you can ask questions and people help instead of flame.I think most flamers don't bring anything to the cause, why they think they're above everyone else i don't know.If you don't want to help just go back in the closet and don't post.
Again is this a good time to switch to the 3.55 and why? Thanks fellas.

I'd wait a little longer before upgrading to 3.55, if you're purpose is playing backups. Things are very early in development and only some backups are working thus far, homebrew is working fine, just needs to be signed. The biggest advantage right now to upgrading to 3.55 is you don't need a dongle anymore, it's "perma-jailbroken", and PSN access.

The reason everyone in the ps3 scene has a stick up their ass, is because the ps3 scene is extremely broken and has been from the start.

Do yourself a favour and stick with 3.41 for now and get yourself some sort of dongle if you can't wait for a bit. There seem to be alot of problems/roadblocks with the recently released tools and 3.55 hacks.

Even a noob should be able to figure out how to use the dongles with 10 minutes of searching/reading.

Thanks for the answers I know about the problems with 3.55 and am not a noob per say,I"ve hacked everything from DTv,Dish to your friendly Hackintosh since the early days, plus all the consoles.I've read all there is to read.Already have a different PS3 running the dongle with all the games that matter. This 60GB PS3 I just managed to bring back from the dead is revision 2.40,so am trying to figure out what to do with it.Update to 3.15 or 3.41 and shelf it,or test the shit out of the 3.55 for no apparent reason.
